Abstract

This paper evaluates the impact of the State Training Program in Pernambuco, Brazil. It starts presenting an overview of the Brazilian employment policy to indicate where this Program fits. Then it uses a representative agent model to discuss the way this Program can affect the income of the workers trained and their probability to get a job. Then it uses data from a survey with 392 workers to test some hypothesis on the impact of the program. It concludes that the Program had a positive impact on the income of the workers trained, and also changed their probability to get a placement in the labour market.
