Abstract

De verhoudingen binnen de mondiale economie zijn in de afgelopen decennia sterk veranderd. Onder aanvoering van de Verenigde Staten (VS) werd de wereldorde na de Tweede Wereldoorlog gevormd door een relatief kleine groep homogene Westerse landen met vergelijkbare welvaartniveaus en politieke belangen. Het multilateralisme vierde hoogtij, wat resulteerde in een groeiend aantal multilaterale verdragen en instituties. Deze “global governance†bereikte zijn hoogtepunt rondom de oprichting van de Wereldhandelsorganisatie (WTO) halverwege de jaren negentig in de vorige eeuw.
