Zweite Corona-Infektionswelle: Deutsche Wirtschaft wird zum Jahresende schrumpfen

Abstract

Das erneute Aufflammen der Corona-Pandemie setzt dem Wirtschaftsaufschwung in Deutschland vorerst ein Ende. Die rasant steigenden Infektionszahlen verunsichern VerbraucherInnen und Unternehmen weltweit, zudem haben viele europäische Regierungen, auch Deutschland, erneute Einschränkungen des Wirtschaftsgeschehens beschlossen, um die zweite Infektionswelle zu stoppen. Dies dürfte Berechnungen des DIW Berlin zufolge im vierten Quartal zu einer um 19 Milliarden Euro geringeren Wirtschaftsleistung führen. Das Bruttoinlandsprodukt wird zum Jahresende um voraussichtlich ein Prozent schrumpfen. Am stärksten betroffen sind konsumorientierte Dienstleistungsbereiche wie etwa das Gastgewerbe oder die Kultur- und Veranstaltungsszene. Die Industrie hingegen dürfte weniger stark in Mitleidenschaft gezogen werden als im ersten Halbjahr. Die Arbeitslosigkeit wird im Vergleich zum Frühjahr wohl nur moderat, um etwa 50 000 Personen, zunehmen. 400 000 Beschäftigte zusätzlich werden voraussichtlich in Kurzarbeit geschickt. Für das berechnete Szenario wurde angenommen, dass die Pandemie durch die erneuten Restriktionen schnell und dauerhaft begrenzt werden kann. Gelingt dies, kann die deutsche Wirtschaft im kommenden Jahr wieder wachsen. Ansonsten könnte der wirtschaftliche Schaden deutlich größer ausfallen.
