Abstract

(english) The aim of this work is to propose a critical analysis of the recent research works on the Senegalese associations in Italy. First, the main socio-economic characteristics of the Senegalese migration are described. Second, the literature review on Senegalese associations in Italy focus on the main approaches and conceptual tools applied, the suggested classifications, the most relevant themes developed (the governance and the leadership structure, the network of relationships in which associations are involved). Then, the main results of the most recent studies on the topic are summarized. In conclusion, some research gaps and possible directions for future analysis are suggested such as the role of associations in providing informal social protection to members, and a deeper analysis of the impact of associations’ projects aimed at the production of local public goods in the country of origin.
