Abstract

***** Between 2015-2018, Norte de Santander has annually increased the number of gastric cancer cases (12% median and 27% average annual growth). In the same period, deaths because of the disease have doubled. The objective of this research is to identify what are the most recommended public policy alternatives to reduce the high prevalence and mortality of gastric cancer in Norte de Santander? The methodology used is costeffectiveness analysis, using costs from a social perspective and the indicator of effectiveness is years of life gained. The result of the methodological approach showed that, by 2020, cancer treatment costs of over 9.1 billion pesos are estimated in the department. Likewise, this research concludes that: a secondary screening prevention alternative would be more cost effective than the status quo (treatment of cancer in advanced stages). For the status quo, the cost of each year of life gained in 2020 would be $COP 23,584,776, while in secondary prevention each year of life gained is less than $COP 4,997,337.
