El efecto del Coronavirus (COVID-19) sobre el mercado laboral en la ciudad de Cali

Abstract

Este documento analiza los efectos del nuevo Coronavirus (COVID-19) en el empleo y desempleo de la ciudad de Cali. La ciudad de Cali ha presentado un desempleo superior al nacional, alrededor de 2 p.p. por encima aun cuando viene creando empleo; entre enero y febrero del 2020 el empleo creció en un 5%. Las percepciones, a través de las encuestas aquí revisadas, muestran en su mayoría, que como resultado del COVID-19 el empleo disminuirá y afectará principalmente a los sectores de comercio, manufactura, hoteles y restaurantes, entre otros. Estos sectores son los que más empleo generan en la ciudad. El documento también analiza el fenómeno de la informalidad por estrato socioeconómico, tamano de la empresa y sector. Finalmente, a partir de un análisis de series de tiempo se puede observar que el efecto de un shock duraría alrededor de 18 meses en el caso del desempleo y casi un ano en el caso del empleo.
