Abstract

"Este Análisis de Coyuntura Social se apoyan principalmente en la primera etapa de seguimiento de la encuesta longitudinal de hogares de Fedesarrollo (Encuesta Social de Fedesarrollo)." Sin duda la erradicación de la pobreza es un tema prioritario dentro de la agenda política de Colombia. El hecho de que aproximadamente uno de cada dos colombianos no cuente con los medios necesarios para adquirir un nivel adecuado de bienes elementales como alimentos, vivienda, educación, salud y agua potable, además de ser una situación inadmisible, es un escenario insostenible en la medida en que los determinantes de la pobreza se reproducen entre generaciones y constituyen una de las principales barreras para el desarrollo económico del país. En efecto, una de las principales propuestas del Banco Mundial es que la persistencia de la pobreza (absoluta y relativa) es en sí misma un obstáculo para la consecución de mayores tasas de crecimiento económico (ver Perry et al., 2006).
