Viajeros vs. migrantes: una nueva metodología para la estimación de los flujos migratorios internacionales de Colombia

Abstract

En este artículo desarrollamos una metodología de estimación de los flujos migratorios internacionales de Colombia basados en una nueva fuente de información desarrollada por el Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE) a partir de la base Migración Colombia y además presentamos los resultados obtenidos. Los datos de este estudio proceden de los flujos de 41.766.428 viajes internacionales registrados en el período 2004-2010. La metodología implementada permite reconstruir los itinerarios de viaje de 9.584.315 personas en el mismo período, quienes son sometidas a diferentes algoritmos para obtener su estatus migratorio. Finalmente, se presenta la metodología de estimación de los flujos migratorios y una comparación con los datos registrados en países como Espana, uno de los principales destinos de la emigración colombiana. ******** In this paper we present a methodology and the results of a new source of information on flows international migration Colombia developed by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) from the database Migración Colombia. The data for this study come from the flows of 41,766,428 international travels recorded during the period 2004-2010. The methodology used reconstructed the travel itineraries of 9,584,315 people in the same period, who are subjected to different algorithms to obtain the migration status. Finally, we present the methodology of estimation of migration flows and a comparison with the data recorded in countries like Spain, one of the main destinations of Colombian outmigration.
