Estados Unidos A Inicios de siglo: desequilibrios, crisis y erosion del liderazgo económico mundial

Abstract

Este trabajo se propone aportar elementos para argumentar la idea de que la debilidad de la recuperación que tuvo lugar en la economía norteamericana entre 2001 y 2008, así como la agudización de desequilibrios (comerciales, financieros, fiscales y distributivos) en ese período demuestran que esta economía atraviesa por una profunda crisis que va más allá de una simple contracción cíclica. Se trata en definitiva de que, si bien Estados Unidos mantiene el liderazgo económicomundial, su hegemonía muestra claras senales de decadencia, lo que se refleja tanto en las condiciones internas del país, como en las tensiones que sufre su posición en el orden económico global. Estados Unidos tiene ante sí el reto de realizar los ajustes necesarios para reacomodar su posición en un escenario que difiere radicalmente del que favoreció su liderazgo absoluto, al finalizar la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
