Abstract

Abstract : This article aims to present the macroeconomic theory of John Maynard Keynes, from his most representative work: The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, published in 1936. This work has an essentially heterodox character, since it contradicts the explanations of the “classical” theory of unemployment for the insufficient flexibility of the labor market, the level of global activity by the characteristics of supply, and the neutrality of money. The content of Keynes's General Theory can be summarized in three propositions: (a) the level of employment is not determined by equilibrium in the labor market; b) the global demand may be insufficient to generate a global output that ensures full employment and c) money plays a central role in the existence of the equilibrium with unemployment.
