Abstract

La Encuesta Folclórica Nacional de 1942 —un esfuerzo de los intelectuales liberales en el marco de la política cultural que había disenado la llamada República Liberal- movilizó como “encuestadores" a los maestros de las escuelas públicas primarias del país, conviniéndolos por esa vía en improvisados etnógrafos, que dejaron consignadas sus impresiones sobre las comunidades campesinas que habitaban, en un conjunto de monografías que son precisamente las respuestas a los cuestionarios que les envió el Ministerio de Educación Nacional para que recogieran las informaciones básicas que permitirían caracterizar la “cultura popular nacional ". El presente texto -que forma parte de una amplia "saga" que el autor ha venido escribiendo sobre el tema-, se dedica a examinar con todo detalle la forma como los maestros de escuela en todo el territorio nacional cumplieron su tarea.
