Colombia y Panamá: una complementariedad económica creciente

Abstract

Colombia y Panamá han estrechado notablemente sus lazos comerciales y de inversión en lo corrido de este siglo, y aún tienen grandes oportunidades económicas para capitalizar. Los dos países están entre los más dinámicos de América Latina en este siglo, registran un gran crecimiento de su ingreso per cápita y sus estructuras económicas ofrecen complementariedades importantes en varios campos. En 2013 Panamá fue el tercer destino de las exportaciones colombianas, el principal destino de los capitales colombianos y el sexto origen de las remesas de colombianos en el exterior. El creciente dinamismo de las inversiones colombianas en Panamá se ha reflejado en una vigorosa presencia empresarial nacional en sectores como el bancario, el energético, el de la construcción y el de los alimentos. Las oportunidades de beneficio mutuo hacia el futuro son crecientes si se concretan las iniciativas comerciales y económicas regionales que involucran a Colombia y Panamá, la ratificación del tratado de libre comercio negociado entre los dos países y la aspiración de Panamá de hacer parte de la Alianza del Pacífico.
