Las provisiones Anticíclicas: Una aproximación para Colombia desde el caso Espanol

Abstract

El esquema de provisiones en Colombia ha mostrado un patrón procíclico importante: cuando la economía se desacelera las provisiones aumentan significativamente, retrasando la recuperación del crédito y la economía en general. Con miras a resolver este problema, países como Espana han optado por un esquema de provisiones anticíclicas o estadísticas. Además de guardar una mejor sintonía con la regulación prudencial, dicho mecanismo permite suavizar el comportamiento temporal de las provisiones, tornándolas menos onerosas en períodos de crisis y reforzándolas en los de auge. En este documento se discute la importancia de un mecanismo como el que funciona en Espana y se realizan algunos ejercicios de simulación para ver su potencial impacto sobre el patrón temporal de las provisiones y de utilidades para el período comprendido entre 1991 y 2004.
