Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar la importancia que tiene - para el futuro gerente - el estudio de las organizaciones. Se analizan aspectos básicos que hacen al funcionamiento de éstas. Se presentan seis estudios de caso, que sirven para ilustrar algunos problemas de diseño organizacional. Los casos se refieren a empresas que operan en el ámbito local, e incluyen problemas de crecimiento de la empresa, asignación de autoridad, integración vertical, incentivos y eficiencia de empresas familiares. Se argumenta a favor del empleo de la teoría económica de organizaciones, desarrollada a partir de los trabajos de Ronald Coase, Herbert Simon y Oliver Williamson. Por último, el trabajo plantea la importancia, para las escuelas de negocio, de la implementación de programas - aún modestos - de investigación empírica relativa a organización y eficiencia.
