Abstract

Aplicaciones en Economía Ciencias Sociales con Stata is the first publication in Spanish produced by Stata Press. The content is the result of a selection of individual contributions by a diverse group of authors with different areas of knowledge who illustrate the use of a variety of tools available in Stata. Each chapter presents original research where the authors implement statistical and econometric tools to support their conclusions with empirical results, most of which can be reproduced with the data and do-files available on the Stata Press webpage for the book. Thus the reader has direct access to the methodology implemented by each of the authors. The book comprises three main areas. The first focuses on inequality, poverty, and contingent valuation; the second, on macroeconomic modeling; and the third, on electoral analysis. In addition, one appendix introduces data management using Stata, and one appendix covers basic statistics. The book maintains a balance between economic or social theory, modeling, programming, and data analysis. Each chapter describes and employs several commands, macros, and routines. The authors also develop original code, specially crafted for each application. In addition, each chapter ends with a series of exercises aimed at showing users and students the workings of the theory and empirical estimation.
