Lugar encantado de las aguas: Aspectos económicos de la Ciénaga Grande del Bajo Sinú

Abstract

El documento hace un análisis descriptivo de la situación económica y social de la Ciénaga Grande del Bajo Sinú, comprendida dentro del territorio de cinco municipios del Departamento de Córdoba: Chimá, Cotorra, Lorica, Momil y Purísima. El complejo cenagoso es un cuerpo de agua que se forma debido a la dinámica hídrica entre el conjunto de lagunas y la cuenca media y baja del río Sinú. Mediante su conexión con el río, la ciénaga se convierte en determinante clave de la vida de los municipios que la rodean debido principalmente a dos razones: su función amortiguadora del nivel del río en la época lluviosa, de abril a noviembre, que evita las inundaciones excesivas en invierno; y el enriquecido entorno ecológico que se forma gracias al intercambio de aguas entre ecosistemas de tipo léntico (las lagunas) y lótico (el río), convirtiéndose en un hábitat que alberga gran variedad de fauna y flora. Estas aguas históricamente han sido aprovechadas por los habitantes sinuanos, que han desarrollado toda una economía a su alrededor.
