El ganado costeño en la feria de Medellín, 1950-1997

Abstract

En el mercado nacional ganadero, la Feria de Ganados de Medellín – FGM -, se ha consolidado como el primer evento del país en cuanto al volumen de animales transados y en su condición de fijador de precios a nivel nacional. El departamento de Córdoba es uno de los principales proveedores de animales en la Feria: aproximadamente entre el 45 y 50 por ciento de los animales transados en Medellín provienen de las tierras cordobesas, lo que convierte a esta ciudad en el principal mercado del ganado cebado del Caribe colombiano. Este trabajo analiza la evolución de la FGM durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX, con el propósito de responder dos interrogantes: primero, por qué ha sido el principal mercado del ganado cordobés, y, segundo, cómo ha sido la evolución de la FGM en el período.
