Desarrollo Reciente de las Políticas Monetaria y Cambiaria en Colombia

Abstract

El Banco de la República (Banco Central de Colombia)obtuvo independencia formal del gobierno, primero, a través de la Nueva Constitución expedida a mediados de 1991 y luego, mediante la Ley del Banco de diceimbre de 1992. El próposito de este documento es describir el papel del Banco Central (BC) en el proceso de formulación de la política económica duarnte los últimos tres años. Comenzamos por destacar algunos de los rasgos sobresalientes que caracterizaron el proceso de ajuste en Colombia antes de 1991, dentro de los cuales comenzó a operar el nuevo BC. En segundo lugar discutimos algunos resultados que están a favor de la indepedencia del BC en el caso específico de Colombia. En tercer lugar presentamos la experiencia macroeconómica básica durante el período. Por último, ofrecemos algunos razonamientos sobre los desafíos futuros.
