Analyse des inégalités de revenu au Mali

Abstract

Dans les discussions sur les inégalités en Afrique, le Mali apparaît souvent comme une exception, étant le pays ayant le plus faible niveau d’inégalités au niveau de la sous-région Afrique de l’Ouest. Dans ce papier, nous analysons les dynamiques des inégalités dans le pays et essayons de comprendre le rôle joué par les différentes sources de revenus. Pour ce faire, nous utilisons la version harmonisée LIS de 3 vagues de l’Enquête Modulaire et Permanente auprès des Ménages (EMOP) et nos résultats montrent une augmentation des inégalités en 2019. Par ailleurs, nous trouvons que les inégalités de revenus sont principalement dues à la dualité du marché du travail, qui vient ensuite renforcer les inégalités spatiales. Etant donné la prévalence du secteur informel et l’existence très limitée de filets de sécurité sociale, la protection sociale ne joue pas son rôle dans la réduction des inégalités.
