Abstract

En este estudio se analiza el efecto de la movilidad social educativa, ocupacional y en riqueza del hogar en tres diferentes resultados en salud: estado auto-reportado de salud, talla e índice de masa corporal. Para el análisis se utilizan los datos de la ESRU-EMOVI 2017. Entre otros, se estiman modelos de referencia diagonal. Por lo general, los resultados reflejan el gradiente social de la salud descrito por Marmot (2015). Asimismo, aunque existen variaciones en relación con ciertos aspectos de la estimación (e.g. operacionalización de variables y género), se observa que la movilidad social tiene efectos en la salud cuando ésta se mide tanto de manera objetiva como subjetiva. En conjunto, e independientemente de los modelos estimados, los resultados sugieren que el invertir en atención médica es solo una parte de un proceso socialmente más complejo para mejorar la salud de los mexicanos.
