«Expectativas educativas: una herencia intangible»

Abstract

Este trabajo estudia la importancia que tienen las expectativas y actitudes educativas de los padres y madres de familia sobre la escolaridad de sus hijos, independientemente del perfil socioeconómico del hogar. Se explora si dichas actitudes y expectativas pueden convertirse en una herencia intangible que influya en que las nuevas generaciones tengan un mayor o menor logro educativo. Se muestra que los factores familiares que están asociados a la educación no son solamente económicos, y las expectativas de los padres pueden jugar un papel relevante. Las expectativas educativas son mecanismos de transmisión intergeneracional que pueden afectar la educación por medio del involucramiento de los padres en actividades académicas, motivación hacia los alumnos, inversión de recursos, establecimiento de metas, acompañamiento con actividades de soporte, etc.
