«Desigualdad vertical y horizontal en las transiciones educativas en México»

Abstract

En este trabajo estudió los efectos de los orígenes sociales sobre las transiciones entre niveles educativos en México. Se analiza la «desigualdad vertical», es decir la continuidad o desafiliación escolar en el tránsito entre niveles educativos (primaria, secundaria, educación media superior, y educación superior), así como la «desigualdad horizontal», o sea la asignación de los niños y jóvenes a opciones educativas diferentes en un mismo nivel (por ejemplo escuelas públicas vs. privadas). Los resultados muestran que ciertas características socioeconómicas de origen, como la escolaridad de los padres y los recursos económicos de la familia, tienen efectos más importantes que otras (status ocupacional del padre, condición de habla de lengua indígena, tamaño de la localidad). Los efectos de las circunstancias socioeconómicas de origen sobre las probabilidades de continuidad son mayores en las transiciones más avanzadas, es decir, aquellas que tienen un menor nivel de cobertura y en las que se presenta mayor selectividad de los estudiantes que transitan de uno a otro nivel.
