Tendencias en el Consumo de Alcohol y Peso Corporal en Argentina

Abstract

Este capítulo tiene por objetivo brindar un análisis para Argentina de la relación entre consumo de alcohol y peso corporal, teniendo en cuenta que ambos son factores de riesgo evitables de hipertensión arterial. Para ello se utilizan los datos que provee la ENFR (INDEC) en sus cuatro ediciones (2005, 2009, 2013, 2018). Se estima un modelo de probabilidad no lineal de hipertensión arterial y se ahonda en la relación lineal entre el IMC y el consumo de alcohol. Se proveen estimaciones de distintas especificaciones según tipo de bebidas alcohólicas consumidas. Los resultados indican una relación estrecha y positiva entre el consumo de alcohol y el peso corporal, que se mantiene si solo se consideran los individuos con IMC > 30. A su vez, se observa que esta asociación se intensifica a lo largo de los años. En particular, en el 2018, se obtienen las estimaciones más altas.
