Abstract

This report summarizes the progress of 18 nutrition education projects in their first year of operation. The projects were awarded funds under USDA's ES/WIC Nutrition Education Initiative and were administered at the local level within the Cooperative Extension System. The main goal of this Initiative was to change the behavior and promote the nutritional wellbeing of the neediest WIC participants. A wide variety of innovative educational techniques were created or adapted to address the nutritional needs of these hard-to-reach populations. The report reviews progress of the projects in meeting specific process and outcome objectives of the Initiative.
