Abstract

Excerpt from the report: The volume of agricultural production, use of land and income from farm marketings varied greatly during the past 20 years in the Plains. The changes were greater in some of the Plains’ states than in others, and greater in the PIains than in the United States as a whole. Although variability of production is a recognized characteristic of Plains agriculture, measures of the combined production of crops, livestock or all commodities have not been calculated for the states or the region. The purpose of this study is to calculate such measures and briefly analyze the changes which have occurred in the past 20 years in agricultural production, land use and farm income.
