Abstract

The evaluation of the financial viability associated with the risk analysis techniques were used to investigate the benefits and attractiveness of the ration production internalization in the swine confinement, by taking into account the financial attractiveness and transaction costs. In the deterministic scenery, the internalization showed to be viable. However, it was questioned under the light of the risk theory because the internalization generating profitable benefits brings itself the incorporation of risks that previously were concerning to the ration producer, but not to pig breeder. In spite of the risks, the study showed the possible costs generated by specific assets can be diluted through the horizon of the investment project time, since the transactions are recurrent, as existing the continuous need for using the production machinery. According to the transactional cost theory, the asymmetry of information as well as the strategic and opportunist behavior of the market agents were observed in the swine confinement. The trade off between the profitability increase from the internal production and the increased risks in the activity were evidenced in accordance with the financial theory. So, the decision between to buy or to produce is not only limited to the direct relationship among the production costs, but mainly between the risks and the transaction costs involved.
