Abstract

Assim, o Brasil poderá transformar-se no player mundial do álcool.--------------------------------------------Search for renewable sources of energy has become the focus of international debates as a necessary factor to reach sustainable development. This paper has as objective to make an historical briefing of alcohol production in Brazil, therefore this country possesses relevant historical results in this area. In 1975, the National Program of Alcohol – Proálcool has been implemented. This program is divided in four distinct phases, which it is possible to observe many points that have stimulated growth and stagnation in. Currently, Brazilian Ethanol demonstrates signs of leveraging the growth of the GIP in Brazil. This has been possible because of the frequent elevation of the prices of oil; world-wide awareness for pollution reduction, firmed in the Kyoto Protocol; alcohol characteristics of being a renewable energy, among others. Future perspectives for Brazilian Ethanol are significantly optimistic. Internal consumption is relatively increasing and many countries have already approved the mixture of alcohol anidro to gasoline, which shall significantly increase exportations. Thus, Brazil will be able to become the world-wide player of alcohol.
