Abstract

The Superior-Medium San Francisco, inserted in bioma caatinga, is located in the north portion of the state of Minas, semiarid area, marked by a very irregular distribution of rains for the year. This region is target of irrigation projects, interested mainly in the San Francisco's waters, and in its main tributaries. The objective of this article is to analyze the relation between farmers' communities and water in a place where exists seasonality in the natural availability of hidrics resources and, at the same time, solids incentives for intensive projects in use of water. It tries to analyze, mainly, the community handlings of the waters accomplished by family farmers, the relation amid water availability, production of foods and family alternatives in the scarcity.
