Abstract

In this work, the multivariate technique of analysis of the main components was used to verify, among the three indicators selected, which one shows greater influence upon the development level of the metropolitan Medium region of Belo Horizonte (city) in 2004. The discussion on the development subject is not recent, several ideas have already been adopted by theorists. However, up to the present there isn’t a substantial definition considering what development really means. The contemporary vision of the term is that development must go beyond strictly economic, providing the macroeconomic variables’ growth, such as wealth redistribution for the entire population, at a process that also raises social indicators and is continuous over time. Multivariate analysis allowed inferring that the variable “income” exercised great influence, at the development level of the region studied.
