The wage and employment policy impact for productive sectors in Nicaragua, 1994-2010

Abstract

The study analyzes the trend and growth of total factor productivity in the Nicaragua livestock sector which is compare with secondary and tertiary subsectors for measuring employment and wage policy impact during 1994-2010 period. The available data’s Nicaragua Central Bank were used for estimating the Malmquist Index on that period. The study used Data Envelope Analysis (DEA) for productivity Malmquist Index derivation. The paper analyzes the primary, secondary and tertiary growth productivity trend in Nicaragua during the period studied. Either the catch-up and convergences issues or some possible divergences as study cases in agricultural productivity, industry and services are investigating think through global structure. The results are sharing with the IMAE (Economic Activity of Monthly Index) and the growth population rate for Nicaragua. The mean TFP was 5.5 percent where the primary sector shows a 4.4 percent by below secondary and tertiary sector 7.3 percent respectability. These changes were mainly caused by the technology change that reached a mean of 5.6 percent, while the technical efficiency change was indifferent for workers employed. This result reveals the importance that Malmquist Index have for using as complement IMAE index where the policy maker may consider it as input in yours decision.
