Lokale Diskurse zur Aufnahme von Geflüchteten – eine vergleichende Analyse von acht Landkreisen in Deutschland

Abstract

National, but also regional and local media intensively covered the numerous arrivals of asylum-seeking migrants in Germany in 2015 and 2016. The focus of media reporting changed over time, reflecting the general social negotiation process around the reception of refugees and the challenges for the larger society. While those media discourses, their temporal dimensions and changing foci have already been intensively analysed on the national level, research on the local representation of the topic are missing so far. This working paper uses a regional comparative setting in order to identify similarities and differences in the representation of refugees by local media. The main aim of this endeavor is to understand differences in local and regional discourses on refugee reception. The study is embedded in the research project "Future for Refugees in Rural Regions in Germany", where the author is responsible for the work package “Role of Civil Society and Attitudes of the Host Society”.
