Abstract

----- In 1987 with 15 varieties, and 1988 with 13 varieties we have realized trials in two localities : - Basse-Terre : on ferralitic clay-soils with presence of Pseudomonas solanacearum - Grande-Terre : on calcareous vertisols in absence of Pseudomonas solanacearum From 1987-1988 we have noticed 8 varieties with interesting characteristics for quality, yield and reactions to parasitism. This was confirmed in 1988- 1989 with outstanding traits for Korrigane, Spunta, Désirée and Kennebec which are the varieties retained for their adaptation to different soils in our low altitude growing conditions.
