Abstract

----- The damage of Thrips palmi on eggplant crop have appeared at the end of 1985 in Guadeloupe with such intensity that the production of this crop, which was destinated to the exportation, has been gravely compromised. A lot of chemical tests have been realised but the results have been often disappointed. As a matter of fact, the excessive utilisation of insecticides did not resolved the problem and, at the contrary generally they aggravated them. Then researches effected has shown that there was an important natural regulation at the foliage stage and in the soil. This natural regulation is due to a complex of polyphagous indigenous predators which plays an important part in the control of Thrip palmi. The systematic utilisation of insecticides seems to proscribe and chemical treatments must be used carefully. A general idea of the studies realised on this Thrips in Guadeloupe an a list of the pest actually indexed on the eggplant crops are mentionned
