Abstract

Pots experiments under glass-house conditions were carried out on three tropical soils (oxisol, vertisol and halloysitic clay soil) with increasing amounts of garbage compost (G.C) 60,240 and 480 t/ha, and two successive test-crops. Dry matter productions of the aerial parts of the plants were compared with a control and with goat manure (60 t/ha). 480 t/ha G.C. did not caused any toxic action characterized by a decrease of dry matter production in eggplant and lettuce. Whatever the substrate type, dry matter accumulation in eggplant, was significantly more important with goat manure than with G.G. Following lettuce on these soils with 240 t/ha G.C. and 60 t/ha goat manure gave an equivalent dry matter production. The effects the most spectacular of G.C. had been obtained with plants growing on oxisol.
