Abstract

----- Field experiments were carried out with different maize crops to specify fertilizing action of garbage compost (G.C.) on acid oxisol hardly deficient in major elements. On microplots (7 χ 4 m) during eighteen months, 30 and 120 t/ha amounts of G.C. gave significative increasing yields of corn for the 2nd and 3rd maize crops. On the oxisol fertility improvement obtained seem to be due to general effects modifying significantly its main chimic characteristics (as water-pH, C.E.C., C, Ν contents...) at 120 t/ha G.C.. At this level the heavy metal contents, lead and quicksilver, were twice the control contents.
