Abstract

----- Diaprepes abbreviatus, commonly known as the «rootstalk borer weevil» is an important pest of citrus and Sugarcane in the Caribbean basin. In the citrus groves, larvae feed on the roots, causing serious injury to the hostplant (decline and death of the tree when attacks are important). Integrated management of this pest implies behavioral studies. Weevilproduced attractant could supply a method for detecting weevil populations or for controlling them. In the present study, an olfactometer has been developped to analyse the relationships between host-plant and insects and between insects themselves. We quantified the biological responses of the insects to olfactory stimulus such as insects, frass and citrus foliage. The biological activity of the semiochemicals implied is discussed.
