Abstract

----- The so-called surgacane rootstalk borer weevil, Diaprepes abbreviatus(L) an important pest of citrus and sugarcane in the West Indies was recently found infesting 500 hectares of citrus in Guadeloupe and Martinique. Population dynamic of this pest has been followed from May 1988 to May 1989. It shows that Diaprepes abbreviatus is present throughout the year with a maximum of eggs laying from March to June. The pathogenicity of two strains of entornophilic nematodes (Neapiectana and Heterorhabditis) to Diaprepes larvae has been compared in nursery. The highest grub mortality (94,5 %) was obtained with Heterorhabditis. This encouraging result show that entornophilic nematodes are interesting candidates for biological control of Diaprepes abbreviatus in citrus nurseries.
