El Cultivo del Quequisque (Xanthosoma spp.) y Plátano (Musa sp AAB) en el Trópico Húmedo y Bajo de Nicaragua

Abstract

During 1982, 25% of the commercial producers of tannia (Xanthosoma spp) and plantain (Musa sp AAB) in Nueva Guinea, Nicaragua were surveyed in order to describe their farming systems, agroecosystems and management practices. Cocoyam is planted in 1 ha. parcels especially in May and June. Marketing is the principal limiting factor with this crop. Plantain is planted in 1,6 ha. parcels, with no defined date of planting. Plantain populations used were 880 pi/ha. The most common cultivars, 'criollo' and '300', are susceptible to Black Sigatoka, the principal agronomic problem for this crop.
