USO DE INSECTICIDAS Y CULTIVOS ACOMPANANTES PARA EL MANEJO DE Thrips tabaci L. y Liriomyza trifolii B. EN EL CULTIVO DE LA CEBOLLA EN PUERTO RICO

Abstract

El cultivo de la cebolla en Puerto Rico requiere de un manejo intensivo y muy en particular el manejo de insectos. Estos ultimos afios hemos dedicado mucho tiempo en la identification de los insectos mas importantes en el cultivo y como manejar los mismos. Los insectos identificados como los mds dafiinos fueron Thrips tabaci y Liriomyza trifolii. Una vez identificados los insectos evaluamos diferentes insecticidas e incorporamos cultivos acompafiantes en la cebolla para determinar la efectividad de ambos manejos para controlar estos dos insectos. Se determino que los siguientes cultivos acompafiantes: Ocimum basilicum, Ocimum sanctum, Lippia micronera, Rosmarinus officinalis y Plactrantus amboinicus sembrados a ambos lados del cultivo de la cebolla. Y afiadiendo los insecticidas Cypermethrina y Avermectina a las dosis de 0.35 y 1.12 kg/ha, respectivamente. Aplicados al cultivo de la cebolla desde la septima hasta la decimocuarta semana en solo una aplicacion semanal, se logro observar que las poblaciones de T. tabaci y L. trifolii disminuyeron significativamente. Estos cultivos acompafiantes mas las aplicaciones de Cypermethrina y Avermectina ofrecen una alternativa de manejo que puede llegar a reducir las aplicaciones excesivas de insecticidas y el costo elevado del manejo de ambos insectos en el cultivo de la cebolla.
