Abstract

Ese trabajo se realizo en las provincias de San Juan, Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia y Pedemales. Esta region representa alrededor de un 35% de la poblacion ovicaprina nacional que asciende a unos 269,000mil cabezas,siendo el pastoreo extensivo el sistema utilizado por los productores en sus explotaciones .Para la realizacidn de este estudio se utilizo datos de URP(unidades de recursos de planificacion) que describen las condiciones agroecologicas de cada zona ,formulario de encuesta, listados de asociaciones de productores ovicaprinos.La recoleccion de las plantas se hizo cuando los animales estaban en los potreros pastoreando. Se identificaron 20 generos y 26 especies de plantas en el pastizal natural de las cuales el 50% pertenecian a la familia Leguminoceae y 50% a gramineas y otras plantas. Dentro de las plantas estan Prosopis juliflora, Senna obtusifolia, L.leucocephala,Cassia emarginata,acacia macracanta. P.cicinale, Botriochloapertusus. H. Rufa, C. dactylon, C. ciliares, Opuntia sp., L. hystrix, C. moniliformis y otras cactaceas con o sin espina consumidas en la epoca de mucha sequia.Se observo un uso indiscriminado de la vegetation lo que esta afectando la biodiversidad y la alimentacion futura de los animales. Se recomienda Chequeo periodico de la vegetation, Alternativas nutricionales estacionales,capacitacion a productores sobre la cria y manejo de los ovinos y caprinos a fin de mantener el equilibrio del sistema suelo-planta-animal.
