Abstract

This report provides an insight into the local business activity, livability and societal vitality in the rural areas of the Province of Friesland. The report encompasses a literature study and a regional analysis relating to these issues. The regional analysis was carried out in two municipalities in the Province of Friesland, namely Ferwerderadeel and Gaasterlân-Sleat. Eight interviews conducted in each municipality reviewed their strengths and weaknesses, as well as the opportunities and threats of relevance to their situation. The report also con-tains an account of the Naar een levendige economie in een vitaal platteland ('Towards a lively economy and a vital countryside') Workshop organised to discuss issues including the results from this study.
