The Effect Of Federal Purchases Of Surplus Commodities On Prices Of Selected Commodities

Abstract

The stated intent of Section 32 of the Agriculture Act of 1935 is to enhance and stabilize farm prices of agricultural commodities designated as surplus. OLS and two-stage least squares models were -tonstructed to estimate the effect of Federal purchases under Section 32 on the real farm price of three commodities. The results for all three commodities suggest Section 32 purchases have an insignificant effect on real farm price.
