O texto tem como objetivo recuperar as grandes teorias liberais naquilo que elas tem de comum, ou seja: pensar o mercado como uma teoria geral da sociedade e fornecer os atributos que garantam sua supremacia frente a outras formas de organização da sociedade. A partir da releitura da matriz smithiana, da forma lógico-matemática dos neoclássicos e das aventuras dos libertários da escola austríaca , em particular, Hayek, o artigo procura tratar criticamente o pensamento ultra-liberal do economista brasileiro Roberto Campos, que ao evocar suas referências hayekianas as traduz numa defesa apologética do mercado como a única forma de organização da sociedade brasileira.
