Wer oder was sind Migrant(inn)en? Versuch einer statistischen Begriffsbestimmung

Abstract

Die Unterscheidung zwischen Deutschen und Ausländer(inne)n hat in der amtlichen Statistik der Bundesrepublik Deutschland eine lange Tradition. Jedoch ist die Staatsangehörigkeit zunehmend weniger geeignet, die Lebenswirklichkeit von Migrant(inn)en zu beschreiben, sodass in den letzten Jahren alternative Konzepte zur Abgrenzung von Migrant(inn)en in der amtlichen Statistik entstanden sind. Vor allem der "Migrationshintergrund" konnte sich etablieren und erweitert die Möglichkeiten, Migrant(inn)en im Rahmen der Einwohner- und Bevölkerungsstatistik angemessen abzugrenzen. Der Beitrag stellt unterschiedliche Ansätze zur Beschreibung von Migrant(inn)en in der amtlichen Statistik dar und zeigt die Vorteile des Konzepts des Migrationshintergrunds gegenüber dem traditionellen Staatsangehörigkeitskonzept auf.
