Abstract

Städte müssen sich immer wieder verändern, um den Bedürfnissen der Gesellschaft gerecht zu werden. Dabei scheint es selbstverständlich, dass die Städte jeweils auch in ihren Wechselwirkungen zu ihrem Umland betrachtet werden müssen und sich die erforderlichen Anpassungen nur im gemeinsamen Kontext durchführen lassen. Die regionale Maßstabsebene hat in der wissenschaftlich-analytischen wie in der planerischkonzeptionellen Perspektive einen wesentlichen Stellenwert bekommen. Zentrales Ergebnis der Tagung des Jungen Forums 2011 ist, dass polyzentrale Stadtregionen (als Raumkategorie) sich hinsichtlich der planerischen Herausforderungen nicht grundsätzlich von anderen Raumkategorien unterscheiden. Vielmehr ist deutlich geworden, dass regionales Handeln (Handlungsraum) auch Ergebnis eines regionalen Handlungsbedarfs sein sollte und sich daraus die Kooperationsarena ableitet.
