Abstract

The following sections are included:Review of 14 experimental field studies eliciting willingness to pay (WTP) for health insurance among low-income persons in developing countries, based on 20 papers.“We had to work backward taking into consideration what the community could pay while creating a long-term, self-sustaining scheme” — Testimony of an HMI practitioner in India.Estimating WTP for health insurance (HI) in LICs is a challenge given that people have to reveal what they are willing to pay for insurance coverage that they do not yet have and may not even be on the market.
