A Prophet is Not Accepted in His Own Country

Abstract

In 2014, Malaysian social media was abuzz when the managing director of one of Malaysia’s largest conglomerates reportedly called for an end to crony capitalism. Francis Yeoh, the scion of the YTL empire, was widely criticised by keyboard warriors and politicians, past and present, for his challenge. Many accused him of being the very recipient of lucrative government contracts by cosying up to the powers that be back in the 1990s — the crucial period that launched YTL into the big league.
