Abstract

Contemporary architecture has become a prominent tourist attraction, and even the main motivation for a trip. Possibly the best-placed destination in the tourism imaginary in this regard is the United Arab Emirates, although many other world-class destinations also offer the possibility of admiring contemporary architectural masterpieces: New York, Shanghai, London and Barcelona, to name but a few (Sklair, 2005; Specht, 2009). The countryside is also dotted with these creations, permitting the creation of tourist products off the beaten path, which helps with tourist flow management (MacCannell, 1973; Halfacree, 2006)…
