Discovering Actionable Insights from Online Reviews Using Unstructured Content Analytics

Abstract

This project aims to introduce an analytics framework to allow product manufacturers to consolidate product information and customer reviews from various social media sources. Based on the information gathered from social media, the project seeks to provide insights as to how to enhance the product quality and give a better understanding of the market trends of the new product development. Python and XPath were used to crawl the data from multiple data sources on the Internet, producing consolidated information of product details and user feedback. IBM Watson Content Analytics was used as the main platform to conduct text analytics on the unstructured data, and Tableau was used to enrich the analysis with data visualization. A case study of mobile device is presented in this report to show how to improve the product design based on the proposed framework.
