Abstract

This chapter puts under scrutiny the development of corporate governance within the emerging institutional context of the market economy of Russia. It looks at the forces that have determined the shape and performance of the corporate governance system in the period following the collapse of the centrally planned economy in an attempt to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of this system and its impact on firm management. The reported findings about Russia might be instrumental in choosing strategy by investors considering doing business in transition, emerging, and developing economies.
